Dark Denim & Dye Transfer
Our dark indigo denim is designed to deliver the rich color, depth, and character premium denim is known for. Because dark indigo denim contains more surface dye, some color may transfer onto lighter clothing, shoes, handbags, furniture, or other surfaces during the first several wears.
This is known as dye transfer, or crocking. It is a natural characteristic of dark indigo denim and does not affect the quality, durability, or performance of your jeans.
Why does dye transfer happen?
Dark indigo denim contains more surface dye than lighter washes. During normal wear, friction can cause a small amount of that dye to transfer, especially onto light-colored materials.
As your jeans are worn and washed over time, excess surface dye gradually diminishes and transfer should become less noticeable.
How can I minimize dye transfer?
- Wash your jeans inside out in cold water.
- Wash separately or with other dark colors.
- Avoid prolonged contact with light-colored clothing, handbags, upholstery, vehicle seats, and footwear during the first several wears.
- If your jeans become wet, allow them to dry completely before wearing, as moisture can increase dye transfer.
- Always follow the care instructions provided on the garment label.
Is dye transfer a defect?
No. Dye transfer is a normal characteristic of dark indigo denim and may occur during the early life of the garment.
It is not considered a quality issue or manufacturing defect.

While we take great care in producing premium-quality denim, dye transfer is an inherent characteristic of dark indigo fabrics. It is not considered a manufacturing defect and is not covered under our warranty or return policy.
A Tall Box is not responsible for staining or damage to clothing, handbags, furniture, vehicle interiors, footwear, or other personal belongings caused by dye transfer.
